BASEHOR -- Basehor-Linwood scored the first 7 points of the game and Fort Scott High's girls couldn't fully recover as the host Bobcats went on to win the seventh-place game of their own tournament, 50-43.

The Bobcats, a Class 4A State Tournament qualifier last season, held leads of 11-2 during the first quarter and 19-5 going into the second. They led 27-16 at the half.

Basehor's lead grew to 37-20 after scoring 10 of the first 14 of the third period. Then the Tigers (5-6) began to scrap back.

Brianne Lawrence, Maddi Allen and Jenna Harper scored for Fort Scott to close the gap to 11 points at the end of the third. Kori Allen and Katren Rienboldt scored back-to-back to begin the fourth.

The Bobcats, who scored only one field goal in the final stanza, were able to hold off the Tigers with free throws. But Fort Scott still got within 41-37 with five minutes to go when Megan McDermed converted a 3-point play.

Mallory Shelton's stickback basket brought the Tigers within 46-43 with exactly two minutes to go. But Fort Scott never scored again while Basehor-Linwood added four more free throws.
