Colgan teams sweep Uniontown

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Pittsburg Colgan's teams swept Uniontown here Friday night with the Panther girls winning 48-33 and the Colgan boys taking a 63-30 decision.

Colgan's girls were led by Brandee Main, who scored 22 points. Breanna Esslinger scored 13 points to pace the Eagles (4-4).

Coglan led just 12-11 after one period but outscored the Eagles in the second and third by a combined 25-9.

"We did not handle their pressure very well in the second and third quarters," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. "We could not seem to stop the Main girl inside. We need to regroup and get ready for the tourney."

The tourney Holt refers to is the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament, which starts Tuesday. Uniontown will face Altoona-Midway at 4 p.m. that day.

Hayden Rathbun contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds for the Eagles. Hope Jurgensen had 4 steals and 3 assists.

Colgan's boys jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one period and went on to leadthe Eagles 38-12 at the half.

Zach Travis led the Eagles with 12 points. Kelley Thompson and Andy Farmer scored 14 each for Colgan. Uniontown's boys (3-5) will face Prairie View at 5:30, Tuesday, in the first round of the Pleasanton Tournament.
