Geneva Berneice Jones "Berneice," 89, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 at her home in Frontenac surrounded by her five children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was born June 24, 1921 in Benton County, Arkansas to Robert Lee and Flossie (Henry) Autrey.
She was a graduate of Prairie Grove High School, Prairie Grove, Ark., and Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, Pittsburg.
She married Aloysius (Wishie) Jones on Nov. 23, 1944 in Frontenac, Kan.; he preceded her in death on April 20, 1995.
She was a nurse at Mt. Carmel Hospital, Pittsburg, for 40 years on the maternity ward.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frontenac, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Daughters of Isabelle, Eagles Auxiliary and many card clubs over the years.
She is survived by her children: Mary Margaret Reals and husband, Bill, of Mission Viejo, Calif.; Kathy Cattaneo and husband, Ken, of Pittsburg; David Jones and wife, Jill, of Pittsburg; Paul Jones, of Pittsburg; and Cindy Davenport and husband, Terry, of Fort Scott; Kan.; a sister, Nellie Hoskins and husband, Dick, of Joplin, Mo.; nine grandchildren: Peter Cattaneo and wife, Samantha, of Syracuse, N.Y.; Bill Reals and wife, April, of San Diego, Calif.; Tess Carl and husband Todd, of Frontenac; Chad Jones and wife Patti, of Little Rock, Ariz.; Christy Reals, of Irvine, Calif.; Josh Davenport and wife Heather, of Fort Scott; Julie Weyer and husband, Pete, of Fort Scott; Colin Jones, of Pittsburg; and Kelsey Jones of Pittsburg; and seven great-grandchildren: Gabe and Jonah Carl, Frontenac, Stephanie, Cade, Ethan and Luke Jones, Little Rock, Ark.; and Connor Aloysius Davenport, Fort Scott.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Robert Spencer as Celebrant. Burial followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Parish rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Monday at the Friskel Funeral Home where the family received friends following the rosary.
