FSCC latest of Mavs' conference conquests

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

IOLA -- Fort Scott Community College's women stand at 0-5 on the season after an 89-49 loss to Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa at the Citizens Bank Classic here Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (5-0) picked up their fourth consecutive victory over a Jayhawk Conference team as they have also beaten Pratt and Cowley this season and also beat host Allen County, 89-50, Friday night.

NOCT shot nearly 50 percent from the floor in the first half and used a 21-0 run to bolt out to a 38-7 lead with 6:08 remaining in the first half. The Mavericks led 52-20 at halftime.

As was the case in Friday night's loss to Butler, the Greyhounds seemed baffled by a zone defense and, again, struggled to even get shots off, much less make them. In the first nine minutes of play, Fort Scott attempted just 9 field goals while NOCT had made 11 of 22 attempts.

Lillian Prince led the Mavericks with 22 points as she made 10 of 13 shots from the field. Annesha Kirk followed with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and also had 10 rebounds. Carmella Thompson added 10 points.

Briana Bonaparte led Fort Scott with 13 points as she made 5 of 6 shots from the field. Christina Hammer added 11 points for the 'Hounds.

NOCT made 36 of 75 fielders overall for 48 percent. Fort Scott was 19 of 62 for 31 percent. The Mavs also outrebounded the 'Hounds, 50-44. Jolee Sharp led FSCC with 8 boards.

Fort Scott turned the ball over 31 times to NOCT's 17. Allen County's statisticians had the Mavs scoring 33 points off turnovers to the Greyhounds' 13.

The 'Hounds played at the University of St. Mary JV Monday night. They will also play at a classic in Dodge City this weekend, taking on host Dodge City Friday night and Garden City on Saturday afternoon.
