KJCCC West teams sweep FSCC women

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

HUTCHINSON -- Fort Scott Community College's women lost both games against Jayhawk Conference-Western Division competition at the Hutchinson Quarterback Classic over the weekend.

The Greyhounds (0-3) lost to Pratt Friday afternoon, 77-58, then to No. 17-ranked Hutchinson, 85-37, Saturday evening.

Friday: Pratt 77, Fort Scott 58.

Fort Scott's 4-0 lead after a minute and a half turned out to be its only lead of the day. Pratt (2-1) scored 12 of the next 14 and never looked back.

Kinsley Hilst led the Beavers with 19 points and 9 rebounds while Ann Pauly added 13, Cari Guyton 12 and Whitney Bates 10. Guyton and Bates combined to make 10 of 16 shots from the field and Pratt shot 44 percent as a team on the day.

Fort Scott High graduate Jolee Sharp led the 'Hounds with 20 points as she made 8 of 13 field-goal attempts. Brianna Bonaparte scored 11 points and led with 9 rebounds.

Rebounds were even at 40-40. Fort Scott shot 39 percent from the floor on 25 of 64.

Saturday: No. 17 Hutchinson 85, Fort Scott 37.

Fort Scott's 37 points were the fewest scored since the Greyhounds were held to the same number in a 10-point loss at Cowley last February. Sharp still led FSCC scorers but with just 10 points this time as Hutch held her to 3 of 9 from the field.

Hutchinson (2-0) scored 30 points off 26 Greyhound turnovers. The Blue Dragons held early leads of 10-0 and 27-1 before Danielle Wiess made Fort Scott's first field goal with 7 1/2 minutes remaining in the first half. The 'Hounds made just 4 of 23 field-goal attempts in the first half and 13 of 48 (27 percent) for the game.

Hutch had five players reach double figures led by Chelsea Small's 14. She was followed by Britney Nuzum with 14, Emilie Blakesley with 13, Alysse Barlow with 12 and Jackie Patterson with 10. Those five combined to make 25 of 46 field-goal attempts (54 percent).

The Greyhounds will play in the Allen County Classic at Iola this weekend. They face Butler at 2 p.m. Friday.
