WICHITA -- Fort Scott Community College's women's basketball team was picked to finish in fifth place in the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division in a pre-season coaches poll released here Monday.
The Greyhounds, who will begin their second season under head coach Diana Couch with a home game against Crowder College next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Arnold Arena, finished in seventh place last season and had an overall record of 14-18.
Fort Scott's men were picked to finish in eighth place in the 10-team division. The Greyhounds finished 10th last season at 4-27. Head coach Michael Cook's fourth year in charge begins next Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Redlands College, also at Arnold Arena.
Independence was picked to win the East women's title followed by Johnson County, Cowley and Coffeyville. Kansas City follows Fort Scott in sixth with Highland seventh, defending champ Labette eighth, Neosho County ninth and Allen County bringing up the rear.
Cowley was picked to repeat on the men's side. Coffeyville is next followed by Independence and Neosho County in the same order they finished last season. KCK is fifth followed by Highland, Johnson County, the 'Hounds, Labette and Allen County.
Hutchinson, Seward County and Garden City were picked to finish 1-2-3 in the West in both men's and women's play.
