Dorothea L. Weitzel, 82, of Parsons, died at 2:18 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 at Labette Health in Parsons, Kan.
Mrs. Weitzel was born May 29, 1928, at Girard, Kan., the daughter of Roy and Sylvia Smith Keeney.
Dorthea was a homemaker and also worked at Key Clothing and Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott and several area nursing homes.
She was raised in the Girard area and attended Arma schools. She had lived in Southeast, Kansas most of her life.
Dorthea loved playing the piano.
She married Robert Morris and they later divorced.
She later married Howard Weitzel in Miami, Okla. Mr. Weitzel preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Collins of Jacksonville, Ala.; and Cindy Morris of Parsons; a son, Jerry Morris of Humboldt, Kan.; a sister, Violet Schaffer of Parsons; a brother, Leroy Keeney of Wakeeney, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughers, Judy Kay Morris and Nancy Kay Morris, two sons, Jeffrey Morris and Steve Morris, and a sister, Fern Gibson, and a brother, Kenneth Keeney.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma. Burial will be at the Sheffield Cemetery near Arcadia.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, at the Bedene Chapel in Arma.
