Loretta began grammar school in California. At the age of 10, she moved to a farm in Kansas, where she enrolled in a one-room school house.
She graduated from Uniontown High School.
After completion of high school, Loretta married Dale Boyd, her childhood sweetheart, in 1951. Loretta and Dale moved to Lancaster, Calif., in 1959.
Loretta assisted with secretarial and financial aspects of the family business, Dale's Alignment and Brake Shop. She was a true 1950's mom, always sacrificing for the good of others.
Loretta was a talented vocalist who enjoyed singing at many occasions. She sang in her church's praise and worship team.
Loretta's ability for sewing was known to many. She made most of her children's clothes. She was always there to make sure that their needs were met before her own.
Loretta loved to cook and bake. Whenever someone was ill, she would make them soup and desserts and offer them support and comfort. She possessed a true servant's heart for giving.
On May 9, 2010, Loretta and Dale celebrated 59 years of marriage. Joy, laughter, travel and many friendships were made during their many years celebrated as husband and wife.
She is survived by her husband Dale, children Russell, Charlene Padgett (Roy), Lorraine Derryberry, Gloria Boyd-Odell (Patrick), and Julie Lindgren. She is also survived by grandchildren, Selina, Israel, Jacob, Troy, Nicole, Natalie, Steven, Scott, Caleb, Cody, Joshua, and Benjamin, 17 great-grandchildren, with more to come. Also surviving is her sister, Kathleen Barlow Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gene Vanatter. Services were held Sept. 16, 2010, at Living Way Foursquare Church, Lancaster, Calif.
