Clara Alice Carlson

Saturday, October 2, 2010

Clara Alice Carlson, 90, Nevada, formerly of Walker, Mo., went to be with her Lord on Sept. 29, 2010, at Christian Health Care in Nevada. She was born July 20, 1920, in Edmond, Okla., to Walter C. Carlson and Amy Alice Spencer Carlson.

The family moved to the Walker area in 1930, where she graduated from high school in 1938 as Valedictorian of her class. After graduating from SMS in Springfield, Mo., she began her teaching career at the Stanton Country School, south of Walker. She also taught at Flat Rock and Walker in Vernon County before going to Camdenton, Mo., for several years. She later moved to Wichita, Kan., where she operated a pre-school, then worked in drafting for Cessna, Boeing and Beech at various times. She had helped care for her father before his death in 1951 and her mother before her death in 1973. She continued to live in Wichita after retiring until March 2003, when she returned to Nevada and resided at Christian Health Care.

She had accepted Jesus as her Savior and joined the Southern Baptist faith as a young woman. She was faithful in attendance and working in the church, teaching and playing the piano. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist, Wichita, for 57 years. Recently, she attended the Church of The Nazarene, Nevada, as long as she was able. We will miss the prayers, love, and concern for family and friends of a Godly woman. She has finished her journey and is now at home with Jesus, Amen.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth St. John, Denver, Colo., and Doris Thomas, Harwood, Mo.; four nephews, Stephen St. John and his wife, Janet, Denver, Colo., Mark St. John, San Diego, Calif., Ed Thomas and his wife, Carolyn, Harwood, Mo., the Rev. Joe Thomas and his wife, Janet, Cleburne, Texas; one first cousin, Jennie Fuchs, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and several great-nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers-in-law, Earl Thomas and Frank St. John.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Mike Satterlee officiating. A committal service will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Church of The Nazarene, Nevada.
