In middle school football Oct. 23, the Wardogs defeated the Razorbacks 18-6 and the Bulls and Huskers fought to a 12-12 draw.
Wardog Jacob Payne ran in a 7-yard score in the first quarter of the opening contest, and Alex Combs caught a 7-yard pass from Wyatt Reehl near the end of the first half to create 12-0 half-time spread. Jordan Philips of the Razorbacks hauled in an 8-yard pass from Kaleb DeLaTorre to narrow the gap to 12-6. In the fourth quarter, Carter Young of the Wardogs rushed for a 5-yard score for the final margin. In the contest, Joe Doherty rushed for 39 yards on 9 carries and Payne added 35 yards on 7 attempts for the victors. Marcus Stepps caught three passes from Reehl for 38 yards. For the Razorbacks, Chase Brown rushed for 20 yards on 12 tries. Ryan Pickert caught 4 passes from DeLaTorre for 53 yards. On defense Young made 9 stops and Payne and Stepps 6 each for the Wardogs. Lane Embry had 9 tackles for the Razorbacks and Evin Maze contributed another 8.
In the second contest, Josh Hudiburg scored first on a 12-yard quarterback sweep for the Huskers early in the second quarter, but the Bulls countered on a 3-yard plunge by K. J. Miller to knot the score at half at 6-6. Neither team scored in the second half, so the contest went to one overtime possession for each team. Mason Knopp ran in a 3-yard quarterback keeper for the Bulls to give them the lead. Josh Hudiburg, however, scored for the Huskers on a 5-yard bootleg, and the game ended in a tie. Isaac Thurston rushed for 20 yards on 14 carries for the Huskers. Hudiburg added another 19 yards, and Adam Deloney ran for 15 on 7 carries. A. J. Smith rushed for 28 yards on 7 carries and Jonah Jones ran for another 13 on 9 tries. On defense for the Huskers, Thurston made 11 tackles. Jacob Cross, Sebastian Loyd, and Deloney were in on 6 tackles each. For the Bulls, Miller made 9 stops; Knopp and Jones had 7 tackles, and Draven Fiegener tacked on another 6.
In middle school volleyball Tuesday, two sixth-grade and six seventh- and eighth-grade matches were held.
In the first sixth-grade match, the Sizzlin Sparklers defeated Dinomight, 25-17, 223-25, 25-11. MaKayla Robinson served 16 points for the Sparklers and Mikayla Norris had 14 points for Dinomight.
In the other sixth-grade match, the Hurricanes swept the Huskies, 25-19, 27-25. Ryann Allison served 8 points for the Hurricanes. Karlee Stanley served 12 for the Huskies.
Seventh- and eighth-grade play begins with Spike-A-Fied sweeping RHFP, 26-24, 25-7. Kourtney Heaton served 27 points for Spike-A-Fied and Madison Cannon served 9 for RHFP.
Dynamite defeated VolleyPops, 24-26, 25-19,17-15. MaKenne Burger led Dynamite with 16 points. Maddi Martin and Kelsey Stanley served 10 points each for VolleyPops.
The Block Busters swept PowerBall, 25-14, 25-21. Emily Bowman served 12 points for the Busters. Sami Milburn served 7 for PowerBall.
NetFlix defeated PowerBall, 25-21, 23-25, 15-8. Elisha Hasenplaugh served 17 points for NetFlix. Katie Brown served 10 for PowerBall.
The Block Busters swept RHFP, 25-20, 25-22. Abi Keating served 11 points for the winners. Madison Cannon served 10 for RHFP.
Spike-A-Fied swept QPVP, 26-24, 25-14. Kourtney Heaton served 19 points for Spike-A-Fied. Karlie Harris served 9 for QPVP.
