Middle school football

In the first Fort Scott Middle School football games of the 2010 season the Bulls and War Dogs faced as did the Razorbacks and Huskers.

The War Dogs stopped Bull drives inside the 10-yard line twice in their 8-6 victory. Jacob Payne scored the War Dog touchdown on a 3-yard plunge. Jonah Jones scored on a short run for the Bulls.

Jones had 22 yards rushing on 9 carries. Payne had 32 yards on 6 carries and teammate Joe Doherty ran for 33 yards on 8 carries.

Marcus Stepps caught two passes from Wyatt Reehl for 25 yards for the War Dogs. A. J. Smith caught three passes from Mason Knopp for 26 yards.

On defense, K. J. Miller made 7 stops for the Bulls while Carter Young had 13 stops for the War Dogs and Nicholas Woods added 9 tackles.

In the second game, the Razorbacks scored four touchdowns in a 28-6 victory, three of them coming through the air on 54, 19, and 12-yard passes to Ryan Pickert from Kaleb DeLaTorre. Dalton Barnes added the fourth on a 4-yard run. Barnes and DeLaTorre ran in 2-point conversions on two of the touchdowns.

Isaac Thurston scored for the Huskers on a 70-yard pass from Josh Hudiburg.

Chase Brown was the leading rusher for the Razorbacks with 35 yards gained on 18 carries. DeLaTorre also ran for 35 yards on 3 attempts.

For the Huskers, Adam Deloney rushed for 27 yards on 7 carries.

On defense for the Huskers, Jacob Cross made 10 tackles and Thurston 11. The Razorbacks had Brown with 5 tackles and DeLaTorre and Lane Embry with 4 stops each. DeLaTorre also had 3 interceptions for the winners.

Middle school volleyball

Fort Scott Middle School volleyball season began Tuesday with two sixth-grade games and six matchups for the seventh and eighth grades.

In one sixth-grade match, the Sizzlin Sparklers defeated the Huskies, 25-17, 13-25, 15-13. Alex King and Hannah Coombs served 12 points each for the Sparklers and Daisey Pearson served 11 for the Huskies.

Dinomight beat the Hurricanes, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10. Katy Coll served 19 points for Dinomight. Katy Webb served 12 for the Hurricanes.

Seventh- and eighth-grade play begins with a 25-22. 25-13 sweep by NetFlix over Dymanite. Kaleigh Arndt served 18 points for NetFlix. Aubree Altic served 10 for Dyamite.

Blockbusters defeated VolleyPops, 21-25, 25-15, 25-11. Abby Keating and Katie Gorman served 10 points each for the 'Busters. Hannah Geneva served 27 for the Pops.

RHFP swept PowerBall, 25-11, 25-19. Kennede Reynolds served 10 points for RHFP. Madeline McCoy served 9 for PowerBall.

RHFP went on to beat VolleyPops, 25-9, 25-27, 15-11. Reynolds served 20 points. Kelsey Stanley served 17 points for the Pops.

Spike-A-Fied defeated NetFlix, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13. Kourtney Heaton served 18 points for Spike-A-Fied. Jennifer Harrison served 19 for NetFlix.

QPVP beat Dynamite, 25-20, 20-25, 15-5. Karlee Harris served 17 points for QPVP. Altic served 9 for Dyamite.
