Eagle volleyball ranked No. 1

With an 8-0 record heading into tonight's Three Rivers league triangular at Oswego, Uniontown's volleyball team has vaulted three positions into the No. 1 ranking in Class 2A in this week's Kansas Volleyball Association poll.

The pre-season No. 1 team, Blue Rapids-Valley Heights, is no longer ranked at all. Oskaloosa (2-0) moved up one position from No. 3 to No. 2. Oberlin (4-1) was moved down one position from No. 2 to No. 3.

Appearing in the poll for the first time this season are Olpe (3-0) at No. 4 and Goessel (3-0) at No. 5. The only other team that received votes is Republic County (2-0).

Valley Heights defeated Oberlin for third place in last year's Class 2A State Tournament. Uniontown and Oskaloosa were also State qualifiers last season.

The Eagles will face Oswego and Altoona-Midway today with action beginning at 5 p.m.

Later this season, on Oct. 9, the Eagles will play at Pioneer League member Central Heights, which at 5-0 is currently ranked No. 4 in Class 3A.

Fort Scott (6-1) received votes in Class 4A. The No. 1 team in that Class is defending champion Lenexa St. James.

NOTE: Beginning this year, Class 1A will be split into two divisions. Those divisions will be announced when the Classes are determined in early October. Until then, there will be one Class 1A poll.
