GIRARD -- Uniontown's volleyball team, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A by the Kansas Volleyball Association, swept a pair of Crawford-Neosho-Cherokee League opponents here Tuesday night.
The Eagles opened with a 25-23, 25-18 sweep of Girard. Jacy Ermel had 5 kills for Uniontown while Jessie Camac and Jessica Harrison each had 4. Ashley Nietfeld had 2 solo and 4 assisted blocks. Tayler Shook dished 14 assists.
"We played extremely well in the Girard match," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "There was great play from both teams."
The Eagles defeated Erie in three games, 19-25, 25-12, 25-12. Ermel had 12 kills and 7 blocks (3 solo) while Nietfeld had 6 blocks.
"We were a but slow in starting the Erie match," Hall said. "We were a bit hesitant at times. And we struggled with our passing, which in turn didn't allow our setter to get the ball to our hitters where they really needed it. But I am proud of the way the girls fought back after losing the first set and then taking the next two to get the match."
In junior varsity play, Uniontown lost to Girard, 25-18, 26-24 and beat Erie, 25-13, 25-11.
The Eagles are idle until Sept. 9 when Three Rivers League play begins with a triangular at Oswego that will also include Altoona-Midway.
