PITTSBURG -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team opayed its second tournament of the season here Monday with its entrants winning first- and second-place honors in the singles divisions.
Pittsburg entered three teams, which will be listed as White, Purple and Grey.
Bailee Hall, playing her first matches of the season, was 3-0 in No. 1 singles. She defeated Megan Reed of the Purple team, 6-5 (7-4), Olivia Laidler of the White team 6-4 and Sabrae Cooper of the Grey team 6-1.
Aubin Duff was second in No. 2 singles. She beat White's Erin Simons 6-4, Grey's Ashley Watters, 6-0, and lost to Purple's Jessica Curley, 6-4.
Fort Scott's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams each had 1-2 records for the day. The No. 1 team of Krista Hightower and Sammi Carr defeated Grey's Jordyn Newcomb/Carly Johnson, 6-2. They lost to Purple's Erica Springer/September Perkins, 6-1, and White's Emily Hicks/Brittany Wilde, 6-2.
Kandice Rost and Jasmine Davis played No. 2 doubles. They defeated Abbey Herring/Chelsea McQuarry of the Grey, 6-1. They lost the other two matches in tie-breakers, to Purple's Emily Baden/Laikya Long, 6-5 (7-2) and White's Bracqulel Beachner/Samantha Garret, 6-5 (8-6).
"Bailee Hall had a nice tournament today," Fort Scott coach Lynn Barr said. "She started out slowly but came back to force the tiebreaker in the first match, then fell behind in the tiebreaker but came back to win it. Aubin also had a good tournament today winning two of her three matches. We are still making too many unforced errors though, many because of footwork and mechanical errors that the girls need to fix before they are going to show some more improvement."
The Tiger JV will be in Parsons Tuesday for an invitational which Labette County will host.
