Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team opened the season by hosting a triangular Monday evening.
The Tigers tied Pittsburg 2-2 and lost to Independence 4-0. Indy defeated Pittsburg 4-0.
Krista Hightower played No. 1 singles for Fort Scott. She lost to Pittsburg's Megan Reed 8-7 (7-4) and Indy's Taylor Mason, 8-1.
Jasmine Davis was Fort Scott's No. 2 singles player. She defeated Pittsburg's Olivia Laidler 8-1 and lost to Indy's Zoe McCollam 8-1.
Brittany Burn and Kandice Rost were the Tigers' No. 1 doubles team. They defeated Pittsburg's Emily Baden/Laikyn Long 8-4 and lost to Indy's Emily Derrick/Diana Mendoza 8-3.
Aubin Duff and Becky Lemke played No. 2 doubles. They lost to Pittsburg's Carly Johnson/Braquel Beachner 8-2 and Indy's Kasi Dee Cox and Jenna Gilstrap 8-2.
"I thought our JV kids did a nice job in their first action of the season and for four of them their first-ever high-school tennis matches," Tiger head coach Lynn Barr said. "Of course, there are things that we need to work on, but that's going to be the case with JV matches. The effort was good and these girls have made some progress in their first week of practice."
The Tiger JV plays next Monday at Pittsburg.
