Jean Norma Nichol, age 73, resident of 1010 S. Holbrook, Fort Scott, died early Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at Fort Scott Manor Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Fort Scott, the daughter of Elva Lee Claspill, Jr. and Nora M. Ewing Claspill.
She worked as a nurse's aide for Mercy Hospital and later for Fort Scott Manor.
She married Charles W. Nichol on Dec. 10, 1992, in Fort Scott.
Jean greatly enjoyed working with the people living at Fort Scott Manor.
She liked to garden as well as cook for her family.
She was a member of the West Park Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her husband, Charles, of the home; three sons, Orval Doty, Jr. and wife Teresa, Blue Mound, Kan.; David W. Doty, DeSoto, Kan.; and Jason Ballou and wife Carol, Fort Scott; two daughters, Debbie Stewart, Fort Scott; and Joy Filder, Nashville, Tenn.
Also surviving are four brothers, Larry DeLaney, Nevada, Mo.; Doug DeLaney, Olathe, Kan.; Don DeLaney, Garland, Kan.; and Martin Claspill, Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Gerald Doty and Norman Doty; three brothers, Marvin Claspill, Eugene Claspill, and Ronald DeLaney; two sisters, Vivian Claspill and LaDonna Foss; as well as her parents.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, in the Cheney Witt Chapel.
Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery, Fort Scott.
The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time Monday morning.
