Donald Lee Mitchell, of Topeka, Kan., passed away, Monday Aug. 9, 2010, at Lakeside Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

He was born Jan. 26, 1927, in Ottawa, Kan. He was the son of Earl A. and Mattie J. (Head) Mitchell.

He was a 1944 graduate of Ottawa High School.

After high school. he enlisted in the U.S. Army and after basic training was sent to the Phillipine Islands where he served in World War II until his discharge.

He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 37 years, retiring in 1984.

He married Barbara L. Kraus on Aug. 2, 1947 at the First Christian Church in Emporia, Kan.

Survivors include, one son, Dr. Steve C. Mitchell, Sr.,of Fort Scott, Kan.; three daughters, Debbie Schmidt of Wichita Falls, Texas; Donnie Benson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Carla Brown of Omaha, Neb.; and wife of the home Barbara Kraus.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mortuary, 1321 SW 10th Street, Topeka, Kansas, 66604.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetary at 17th and Fairlawn.

The Family will receive friends Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Penwell-Gabel Mortuary.
