Family, friends enjoy wedding at Shead Farm

On Sunday after the wedding of Clayton and Maria Whitson in the patio of the Shead Farm, rural Garland, there still remained 23 men and women. Some were relatives some friends with many children. They enjoyed a 1 p.m. dinner. Many of these folks were in the home of Mark and Haley Shead in Fort Scott the Saturday night before. Michael and Chrisi Shead from Michigan and his sister, Mitzi, Joel Ray with Cademon and Atalie from Tulsa, were overnight guests of their Grandmother Shead in Arcadia.

The famous Elena Kagan, who is a nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, was listed as one of the smart girls in her high school class. Another in the class was Shelagh Lutcha now the wife of John Corporon, Stamford, Conn., the daughter in law of Jack and Harriett Corporon of Brooklyn, N.Y.

In spite of Pastor Charles Cable's using crutches and sitting on a stool to preach due to his bad knee, he spoke of our spiritual gifts. He sang a special before sermon time. Willa Cable made the announcements for forthcoming events JOY Class supper and business meeting on Monday night, July 19.

The Oskaloosa Baptist Church invites all children to their Bible School July 26-20 from 6:30-9 p.m. Christian church dinner, Aug. 1, following morning worship. Aug. 2 will be Kids Day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. On Aug. 2 will be Fall Festival and Bible School Planning meeting at 7:30 p.m. in Christian Church Parsonage.

The June meeting for Kid's Day in June had only two young girls who enjoyed baking the cookies and giving to elderly friends. The July meeting, there were seven attending including Atlanta Sprague, Angela Busy, Bridget Sprague, Stephanie and Andy Leichliter, Cheyenne Mellon and Josie Bryant. The leaders were Willa Cable, Brandy Gartner and Patty Peterson.and Ashley Semple.

The Open Door Mission in Arcadia invites old and new friends of Jodie and Galen Dunn to the meeting to be held on Sunday evening, Aug. 23 at 6 p.m. Please RSVP They have just recently returned from the Philippine Islands where they have a mission and school established.

At the July meeting of Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens, Barbara Tavernaro of Frontenac and Jan Mayfield, Fort Scott, took blood pressure readings for the 17 present. All Seniors are invited to attend the Aug. 9 meeting for carry-in dinner and free blood pressure readings, compliments of Arma Care Center. Dinner is at 12 noon.

Jack and Mary Lee Payne's oldest grandson, Chad Morton, wife Jennifer and daughters Juliana and Ava Grace, came from Augusta, Georgia for the 4th of July weekend before going on to Excelsior Springs, Mo., to visit his parents and other family members for the following week. Joining the festivities were great-grandmother Helen Payne, Mulberry; Jeff, Sherry and Courtney Sisney, rural Arcadia; Chris, Mindy and Jaxson Payne, Arma; David, Amy, Drew and Lane Carpenter, Bolivar, Mo.; and grandson Seth Morton, Excelsio Springs. A meal of steak fry and homemade ice cream served Saturday night and biscuits with sausage gravy Sunday morning were enjoyed by all.
