Paul James Decker, age 39, resident of rural Hepler, Kan., died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at his home.
He was born June 15, 1971, at Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Robert Decker and Deborah Farmer Decker.
Paul graduated from Fort Scott High School.
He later served 13 years with the United States Army. He had served in desert training at Fort Irwin, Calif. Paul also served six years in Germany and most recently served with the 250th Forward Support Company stationed at Ottawa, Kan.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Debbie and Bob Vernon of Fort Scott; his father and step-mother, Bob and Sharon Decker of Springfield, Mo.; three brothers, Tom Decker, Springfield, Mo.; Trey Vernon and wife, Meg, Junction City, Kan.; and Ryan Vernon, Tulsa, Okla.; and one sister, Michelle Decker, Tulsa, Okla.
Also surviving are his grandparents, Joe and Mary Lou Brungardt and Juanita Decker, all of Fort Scott; and Bob and Roberta Vernon, Parsons, Kan.; and two nephews, Quenton and Caleb Decker.
Chaplin (Colonel) Don Davidson will conduct graveside services at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 2, 2010, at the U.S. National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Kansas Army National Guard.
Friends and family may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel on Friday prior to leaving for the cemetery at 1:15 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
