Doris Marilyn West, age 76, a resident of Fort Scott, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Medicalodge of Fort Scott.
She was born Aug. 27, 1933, at Mapleton, Kan., the daughter of Thomas E. Ball and Dollie Jane Gunsolley Ball.
She married Merlin A. West on March 1, 1952, at Eureka Springs, Ark. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2009.
In her earlier years, Doris provided child care out of her home. She then went to work for Ennis Business Forms and later retired from Ward-Kraft.
Doris was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed crocheting and cross stitch as well as cooking.
Survivors include her children, Bob West and wife, Debbie and Karen Cook and husband, Garry, all of Fort Scott; four grandchildren, Trisha Whitehead and husband, Doug, Chris Cook and wife, Amanda, Kellye Barrows and husband, Nick, all of Fort Scott; and Clint West of Lawrence, Kan.; and four great-grandchildren, Kinzye and Bailye Whitehead and Madisyn and Emmalea Cook.
Also surviving are a brother, Virgil Ball, Lawrence, Kan.; and three sisters, Vera Christian, Wichita, Kan.; Darlene Grant, Chanute, Kan.; and Reba Lentz, Aurora, Mo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gail Ball.
Pastor Janet Myers will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m., Friday, July 2, 2010, at the U. S. National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday at the Cheney Witt Chapel from 10 a.m., until leaving for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
