On this same Sunday, Ralph's uncle Charles Corporon of Pittsburg was enjoying dinner at the Shead Farm where other relatives were gathered for dinner. It included, Mitzi, Joel, Cademan, Atalie Ray and Marie Shead from Tulsa; her fianceé, Clayton Whitson from Wichita; Mark, Haley, Katy and Benjamin from Fort Scott and Mary V. Shead, Arcadia.
After the Emory Briggs family enjoyed a family reunion in the Liberal, Mo. park area on Saturday, June 12, he and his wife, Betty Briggs attended JOY Class in Arcadia Christian Church the following Sunday morning. Emory is the former long time teacher of the Class. That morning, classmates and friends signed a 60th Anniversary card congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Jim Guthrie who are also former members of the JOY Class. It was that many years ago they were married in this same church.
All are reminded to mark your calendars for July 3, when the Freewill Baptist Church of Oskaloosa, Mo., will be in Arcadia downtown with turtle races and activities in the park, food in Community Center and fireworks at dark. Arcadia folks appreciate the kindness and friendliness of our neighboring town.
On June 20, guest speaker on Father's Day in the Arcadia Christian Church will be the Pastor's daughter, Cherrie Walrod from Eudora, Kan.
Monday, June 21, will be the regular dinner and meeting night of the JOY Sunday School Class
Arcadia folks were sorry to learn of the death of Leon Jursche, who died May 25. He graduated from Frontenac High School and PSU. He was an athletic coach in the Arcadia High School and well remembered by his students and athletes during his years here.
David Peterson, one time minister in Arcadia Christian Church, was a guest recently back in the same church. Since leaving Arcadia, he has visited his long time friends in Wichita and Kauai, Hawaii where he used to live before studying for the ministry. His friends here were pleased to welcome him that Sunday morning.
The Annual Arcadia High School Alumni Association 20l0 Reunion was held on Saturday evening, May 29, in the Lampliter Inn, Pittsburg, with 167 present. That included 94 Alumni members and 73 guests. It was noted that for many years, the Class of 1936, one of the three largest classes to graduate, would have the most members present at the dinners, but this year, only one member in that class was there. Perhaps it is due to the fact the members are now in their 90th years of age.
The president, Virginia Smith served as Toastmaster. Classes of 1960, 1950 and 1940 were honored. George Quier, former superintendent spoke briefly. Former teachers were recognized. Those receiving the A.F. Bowlus, Betty Kirksey, Doris Stelle Scholarships gave their thanks.
The School song was led by Bill Skidmore. A visitation and dance followed with music provided by Dylan Coonrod. It seems many lingered longer to catch up on the good old times.
The memorial list read by Mary Lee Payne included these names of graduates and the year they graduated whose names were recorded since the last Alumni dinner.
