James Henry Marquardt, 70, of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday evening, May 24, 2010 at the Mercy Health Center.

He was born Jan. 14, 1940 in Pittsburg, Kan., the son of Ernest Henry and Buelah Arvilla (O'Shannon) Marquardt.

He married Thelma Wurtz Phillips on Feb. 17, 1990 in Fort Scott, Kan. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, Thelma, he is survived by a son, Jim Marquardt, of Pittsburg, Kan.; a daughter, Megan Greninger, of Carthage, Mo.; two step-daughters, Diana Cavin, and Brenda Bailey, both of Fort Scott; a step-son, Randy Phillips, also of Fort Scott; a brother, Robert Marquardt, of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Wilma Radell, of Pittsburg, Kan.; three grandchildren, Molly, Luke, and Cal Marquardt, of Pittsburg, Kan.; and six step-grandchildren, Brent and Ashley Cavin, Austin and Breanna Bailey, and Bethany and Jordan Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alan Marquardt; and a sister, Marilyn Kartman.

Rev. Paul Rooks will conduct funeral services 2 p.m., Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Grace Baptist Tabernacle in Fort Scott, Kan., with burial following at the Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, May 26, 2010 from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
