Workers put the last piece of the 'HoundTron into place in front of Fort Scott Community College Tuesday afternoon. The sign, which faces Horton Street traffic, was purchased through fundraising activities and will be used as another way to keep the community informed about events taking place at FSCC. After more than a year of fundraising, the Fort Scott Community College campus has received a state-of-the-art electronic LED sign. FSCC employees participated in a fundraising campaign, which began in January 2009 as a plan to incorporate all FSCC employees in a project. An electronic LED sign was chosen because of its benefits to every program on campus. Due to tremendous support by the employees of FSCC, the 'Hound Tron fundraising campaign raised over $26,000 to purchase an outdoor electronic LED sign that now sits on the east side of the FSCC campus at 2108 S. Horton Street.

The sign will help offer a new way for FSCC to communicate with the community. The sign will inform FSCC students and the Fort Scott community of all events and happenings going on at the college. And in the future, the FSCC Construction Trades program will build a brick edifice around the legs of the sign which will incorporate lighted advertising opportunities for area businesses.

"This has been a very rewarding project to be a part of and I am thrilled to see so much support from our employees," said Mert Barrows, member of the 'Hound Tron Committee. "This will not only be beneficial to FSCC students, but to future students, FSCC employees and the Fort Scott community.

"From now on, all those interested in what is happening at FSCC will only need to take a drive down Horton."
