GARNETT -- Fort Scott High School's golf season came to an end here Monday at the Anderson County Class 4A Regional Tournament.

Playing without three of their top players due to suspension, the Tigers finished in seventh place out of the eight schools that fielded complete teams. Anderson County won the team title on its home course, winning by by almost 30 strokes and placing four individuals in the top five.

"We did not place well, but the boys ended the year playing as well as they could," Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said. "Most had one phase or the other of their game on track, but then another part unravel.

"I was proud to work with these kids this year. Baker Weilert and Reed Ramsey are young and relatively new to the game; Jordan Neilson and Lyle Brittain have played longer. They all need to put in a hard summer of practice to do better next year, and I hope they choose to spend the time it takes to improve."

The best Fort Scott score was posted by senior Blake Cowen, who shot 50 on the front nine and 40 on the back to finish with a personal-best score of 99 in his first year out for the team.
