Harold E. Card, age 95, of Joplin, passed away on Saturday May 1, 2010, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side, following an illness.

Harold was born on Sept. 12, 1914 in Pittsburg, Kan., the son of the late John and Mabel Card.

He has been a lifetime area resident.

He served in the United States Army Air Corp and Air Force and was a veteran of WWII. While serving his country in both the European and Pacific Theatres and taking part in the Berlin air lift, he was awarded three Bronze Stars.

He married Juanita Akers on Nov. 1, 1952 in Eureka Springs, Ark.

He worked as general manager for Fort Scott Motors for 20 years.

Harold would best be described as an entrepreneur. He started several businesses, including Midwestern Mining and Reclamation.

He was member of the Gateway Church. He was also a member of the Masons, Shriners, and a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion.

In his younger years he enjoyed golf and baseball.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita Card; three daughters, Sandra Hooks, and Rebecca Derringer and husband Joe, all of Dallas, Texas, and Cheryl Baker and husband David, Exton, Pa.; 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Gateway Church. Pastor Dan Saunders will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel, Joplin, Mo.
