Fort Scott man dies in Tuesday crash on US 69
A Fort Scott man died in a two-vehicle crash late Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 69.
According to a report by the Kansas Highway Patrol, 82-year-old Robert Lyons, Fort Scott, died in a vehicle accident that occurred shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 69 just south of Mercy Health Center.
A 1997 Mercury passenger car driven by Kenneth Lee Vandorn, 52, Pittsburg, was traveling south in the left hand lane on U.S. 69 when Lyons, who was driving a 1991 Nissan pickup truck, pulled out of a local recycling yard and headed east across the highway. Lyons failed to yield and the two vehicles collided, the report said.
Both men were wearing safety restraints at the time of the accident. Vandorn was not injured during the crash.
