Walmart Foundation accepting grants

The Walmart Foundation's Kansas State Giving Program is now accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations across the state.

Interested organizations may apply online at www.walmartfoundation.org. The minimum award for each grant is $25,000.

The Walmart Foundation is focused on funding community programs. Organizations must currently operate under the tax-exempt status Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

"The Kansas State Giving Program is focused on funding much-needed community programs, especially those that addresshunger, homelessness, education, job training and important basic needs," Walmart Senior Manager of Public Affairs Ryan Irsik said.

In 2009, Kansas organizations received $324,000. These recipients included: American Diabetes Association, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, Inc., First Book, Flint Hills Breadbasket, Harvesters - The Community Food Network, Inter-Faith Ministries, Saint Francis Community and Family Services, Inc., and Special Olympics Kansas, Inc.
