First Church of God to dedicate Flagg Hall Sunday

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

The First Church of God, 1115 E. Wall St., is inviting the public to attend an open house to celebrate and dedicate a building now known as Flagg Hall.

The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with the dedication scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Attendees are asked to enter the building from the Broadway entrance.

Flagg Hall was originally known as the Fort Scott Collegiate Institute, a boarding school that was chartered on Nov. 19, 1902. The institute operated from 1902 to 1917, when free public education became available. The building has since been used as a parsonage, a pastor's study, a church secretary's office, and classrooms for Sunday school, according to a news release.

The building is currently being used by the United Way of Bourbon County and the Bourbon County Chapter of the American Red Cross, which have offices in the building.

After the recent remodeling, the building has been renamed Flagg Hall in honor of Owen and Cleo Flagg and their daughter, Mary Sue Flagg.
