In Fort Scott, folks along National Avenue have been taking advantage of warm spring days to take part in traditional spring airing of the quilts and are doing so by hanging them up for full public view, like this one in front of the Lyons Twin Mansion, on Thursday. This month, an array of events featuring quilts are being conducted in honor of Women's History Month, including a symposium March 26-27 at Fort Scott National Historic Site, plus a special exhibit today and tomorrow at the site, open 10 a.m.-3 p.m. today and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, a reception and book signing at the Old Congregational Church, 502 S. National Ave. on March 25, and, March 26-27 will include a Shop Hop at the River Room as well. Visitors also will be able to view quilts from Dolly the Trolley. For more information on activities at FSNHS, call (620) 223-0310 or visit www.nps.gov/fosc. Details on the Shop Hop, trolley tours, or the reception can be obtained by calling the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce at (620) 223-3566. --Michael Pommier/Herald-Tribune [Order this photo]
