Fort Scott fell to 0-4 in the East as the Greyhounds were also swept Saturday at Cowley, 5-10 overall.
The Cavaliers (2-0, 11-6) bashed 15 hits in the opener. But they were held in check by pitcher Zach Weinandt for almost three innings.
The Greyhounds scored the first run of the day when Josh Samuelson's bases-loaded walk in the second inning forced in Gavin Stark.
But the Cavaliers rallied in the top of the third. Johnson County's bats started finding every hole in the defense after that as the Cavs scored all 9 runs after two were out with the bases empty.
The Cavaliers scored 2 more runs in the fourth and 2 in the fifth. Fort Scott's only other run was scored when Josh Samuelson's fourth-inning single scored John Leek.
Johnson County pitcher Ryan Garman held the 'Hounds to 1 earned run on 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out four. Designated hitter Davis Morgan had 3 hits in 4 at-bats, scored twice and drove in 2 runs. Skylar Murray was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while Harrison Gerber was 2 for 4, scoring twice and Ben Millard was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Ryan Hall went 2 for 3 and drove in 2 runs.
Tyler Spear pitched 5 strong innings for the Greyhounds in the second game but found trouble in the sixth. Meanwhile, the 'Hounds plated a run in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead.
Brandon Davis scored Dylan Banach in the first on a groundout. Davis singled with one out in the third, moved to third on a double by Stark and scored when Kian Jost reached on an error.
Johnson County had just 3 hits in the second game but they were all home runs. The first, a 2-run shot, came from Morgan's bat with none out in the sixth which broke up Spear's no-hit bit and tied the game. Two outs later, Delby Hannah Junior belted a solo shot to give the Cavs a 3-2 lead.
Millard cranked a solo shot with two out in the seventh off William Kilpatrick to make it 4-2.
The 'Hounds scored once in the ninth. Jake Parsons led off the inning with a double. Banach walked with one out and Davis hit a two-out double to score Parsons.
Zach Gove was the winning pitcher in relief for Johnson County. He went 3 1/3 innings, allowing only 3 hits and a walk with one strikeout. Gil Rehwinkel pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the save.
Spear allowed 7 walks and struck out 8 batters in 6 innings. Michael Armstrong allowed only one walk while striking out one as he pitched the final 2 1/3 innings.
Offensively, Davis was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI for the 'Hounds while Stark went 2 for 4.
The second game went 9 innings as per a new rule in the Jayhawk Conference this season. Instead of two 7-inning games in a doubleheader, the first game is scheduled for 7 innings while the second game is scheduled to go 9.
The Greyhounds go to Butler today for a non-conference doubleheader which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Non-conference doubleheaders can take whatever format the teams agree to play but it's likely to be two 7-inning games.
Fort Scott will also go to Springfield, Mo., Thursday for a make-up doubleheader against the Evangel junior varsity squad. This is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
Saturday, the 'Hounds return home for an Eastern Division doubleheader against Independence. Sunday, they will play host to Longview (Mo.) for a non-conference twinbill. Both events are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts at Lions Field.
