Sophomore, freshman place for Eagles at Girard Speed and Strength Meet

GIRARD -- The 17th Annual Girard Strength and Speed Meet was held February 20 at Girard High School. Over 200 students participated in the meet including Uniontown, Pittsburg, Columbus, Girard, Baxter Springs, Oswego, Northeast-Arma, Southeast-Cherokee and St. Paul as well as Missouri schools Webb City McDonald County, Carl Junction, Carthage, Lamar, Liberal, and Seneca.

Uniontown was represented by sophomore Jordan Woods and freshman Garrett Murrow. They competed against a field that included other Class 2A schools, such as Northeast and Oswego, to Class 5A, such as Pittsburg, to larger Missouri schools, such as Carthage, that would be considered Class 6A schools if they were in Kansas.

Woods competed in the 176-201 pound division, which had 46 athletes. He placed third in the vertical jump with a leap of 30 inches.

Murrow competed in the 125-141 pound division, which had 34 athletes. He took fourth in the squat with a lift of 325 pounds.

Both Woods and Murrow achieved personal bests in the squat and the bench press.
