Davis takes step toward title shot

Tuesday, March 9, 2010
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Fort Scott High School graduate L.C. Davis won a majority decision over Lithuanian fighter Deividas Taurosevicius at WEC 47 Saturday night.

Davis now has a professional MMA record of 16-2. The judges' scorecards had one 29-29 tie and two 29-28 decisions in Davis' favor.

The unofficial scorers at mmajunkie.com, which has a play-by-play analysis of the match posted on its Web site (see link, below, for the Web address), saw the first round as a 10-10 draw, the second round 10-9 in Davis' favor and the third round 10-9 in Taurosevicius' favor, resulting in a 29-29 draw.

It was thought going into this bout that a victory could be what Davis needed to find himself in position for a title shot later this year. It is not yet known when his next bout will take place.

The Columbus show drew 8,345 fans, which is the fifth-highest attendance for a WEC event.

WEC focuses on the lighter weight classes while using the same rules as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is considered a sister organization. Davis is considered a featherweight under WEC's classification system.
