Buster Dale Flynn, age 85 of Wellsville, Kan., passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Wellsville Retirement Community.
Buster Dale Flynn was born Oct. 2, 1924 in Sapulpa, Okla., the son of Bert B. and Eva Bell (Brown) Flynn.
At the age of 12, he moved with his family to Moran, Kan. where he graduated from high school in 1942.
In 1943, Dale joined the United States Army Air Corps serving in WWII and flying 41 combat missions in the south Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
On June 20, 1948, he married Dorlene Young in Moran, Kan. They shared 54 years of marriage before her passing in 2003.
Dale worked in the oilfields for 17 years and spent the remainder of his working years as a pipefitter until retiring in 1987.
Dale served on the Franklin rural water board from 1990-2000, was a member of the Union Pipefitters Local 553, the Wellsville United Methodist Church and the Wellsville American Legion Post 194.
Dale is survived by his daughter and her husband, Pam and Sid Symes of Emporia, Kan.; son and his companion, Darrell Flynn and Mary Overby of Wellsville; brother, Bert Flynn of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Ellen Paschal of Wagoner, Okla., Laura Baker of Osawatomie, Kan., and Judy Baker of Iola, Kan.; four grandchildren; Stephanie Niemeier and her husband Aaron of Shawnee; Ryan Symes and his wife Robin of Overland Park, Scott Symes of Denver, Colo., and Staci Selk of Overland Park, Kan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 12, 2010 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Friday morning, one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow in the Moran Cemetery, Moran, Kan.
