Jayhawk girls win 12th game

GARNETT -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls won their 12th game of the season here Tuesday night as they defeated Anderson County, 44-37, in Pioneer League play.

The Bulldogs led 14-11 after one period but the Jayhawks rebounded to take a 24-20 lead at halftime.

Meriel Long led the Jayhawks (3-4 Pioneer, 12-5 overall) with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Amory Miller added 13 points and another 7 boards of her own. Taylor Dawson also had 7 rebounds.

Chelsea Beckman dished 5 assists while Shelby Krull had 2 steals.

Head coach Charlie Beckman was happy with most things against Anderson County (3-5, 4-13) except turnovers. The Jayhawks committed 21 turnovers.

"We must be able to take care of the ball," Beckman said. "We did a very nice job on defense and especially on rebounding."

Jayhawk boys (0-7, 5-12) lost a 44-40 decision to Anderson County (4-3, 5-11). No further information was available.

The Jayhawks travel to Richmond for make-up league games against Central Heights tonight. Viking girls lead the league at 7-0, 13-4, while the boys are in second at 6-1, 14-3.
