Bill Reid, a professor of horticulture at Kansas State University weighs out and records each entry of nut in the Missouri Nut Growers Association's 2009 Nut Crop Show. The show is held in Nevada each year, and this year will feature the crops of about 60 producers, statewide. The judges evaluate nuts such as the black walnut, pecans, butternuts, chestnuts, heartnuts and others. --Rusty Murry/Herald-Tribune

Nut growers showcase their best products at annual gathering Several species of unusual nuts were brought into the Nut Growers of Missouri Association's 2009 Nut Crop Show at the Vernon County fairgrounds, Friday and Saturday. In the photo on the left, there are butternuts, Chinese chestnuts and heartnuts. Several species of black walnuts from many different areas are entered into the judging at the show, held in Nevada each February.
