LCHS girls open second half with 15-0 run to take control over Tigers

ALTAMONT -- A 15-0 run to open the second half gave Labette County's girls control of a Southeast Kansas League game here Tuesday night as the host Grizzlies went on to a 49-34 victory over Fort Scott High.

The Tigers (6-3 SEK, 7-6 overall) led 9-6 with 1:46 left in the first half after Jolee Sharp took a steal in for a layup. But they wouldn't score a field goal again for about 13 minutes.

LCHS (8-1, 10-3) went on a 13-0 run after Sharp's basket. But the Tigers managed to keep within 19-14 at halftime by making 5 of 6 free throws in the last 2:29.

Five different players scored as the Grizzlies broke away in the third period. LCHS made 5 of its first 6 shots from the field as it extended the lead to 34-14. The Grizzlies outscored the Tigers 23-9 in the third.

Megan McDermed led all scorers with 15 points, scoring 7 straight late in the third as she tried to help the Tigers catch up. Sharp finished with 12.
