Wednesday, January 27, 2010
First-year Fort Scott Community College head softball coach Malinda Berglund has announced three early signings for the 2011 season, including a Fort Scott High School player.

"This year we have put together a small but strong recruiting class," Berglund said. "The incoming student athletes will not only be a big help on the field but bring strong GPA's with them as well. (We) are still talking to more players from Kansas and Missouri. We should have a strong squad this year and these recruits should only help make us even stronger next year."

Erin Coffman, who was an All-Southeast Kansas League First Team catcher for Fort Scott High last season, has signed for 2011. As a junior, Coffman had a .452 batting average.

"Erin will give us a great hitting threat as well as be a vocal leader," Berglund said.

Bryanna Burks, an outfielder for Girard High School, is the second signee. Burks had a .380 batting verage as a junior last season.

Samantha Oxford, a pitcher from Adair (Okla.) High School, is the final signee. She has already completed her high school career as Oklahoma plays softball in the fall. Oxford had a 1.62 earned-run average and a .333 batting average as a senior. She was a member of the Oklahoma Class 3A 2008 State runner-up team. and the 2006 Oklahoma Class 3A State Champion team.
