We had three birthdays to celebrate in January: Lois Bowman turned 76 on Jan. 2. Then on Jan. 13, Rose Walrod turned 88 and on Jan. 18, Jack Walrod turned 89. Happy Birthday to everyone.
We lost four special residents in December, they will be very much missed. Not only will we miss these residents but their families that we have became close to.
Reba Maxine Ayers passed away at the age of 90 on Dec. 6. Reba was born in 1914, in Pleasanton, Kan. She was married to Chester Barton Ayers. Three children, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren survive her.
Oscar Holway was only with us for about a month and passed away on Dec. 11, but we enjoyed our time with him. He was born in Worchester, Mass. He was married to Ida Conroy in 1983 and lived in Blue Mound and enjoyed going to the local coffee shop, Ralph's Filling Station.
Ophelia Marie Elledge passed away on Dec. 26. Her beautiful smile will not be here anymore to brighten our home.
Dale Potter passed away on Dec. 27 at the age of 89. He was born in 1920 in Wichita, Kan. He worked for the Kansas Department of Grain Inspectors, and was married to Ione Hanson George in 1982.
We had a wonderful Christmas party with the residents and their family members. There were people everywhere, and lots of singing, and even four little one were dancing with the dancing snowman that was sitting on the TV. Santa came to the party but he had an unexpected guest "The Grinch." But don't worry, there was a happy ending!
Hume sent a huge group of students to come and sing Christmas carols. We loved the energy and excitement.
The French class and their teacher came from Jayhawk-Linn to sing to us in French. We knew the tunes but not the words so we just hummed and then clapped when they finished.
The Mennonites came on Jan. 8 to sing and entertain us.
January's cold will not hinder our monthly cook out. The "BBQ chefs" will be making our usual hamburgers and hot dogs.
We are staying warm this winter, especially with all our homemade quilts we have received as gifts over the years and hope you are all keeping warm too!
Warm Wishes from Country View!
