Tigers compete at always-tough Bobcat Classic

BASEHOR -- Fort Scott High School's wrestling sent nine wrestlers to the 32-team Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Classic here Friday and Saturday.

The Tigers finished tied for 25th place in a field that included state powers in each of the four wrestling classes in Kansas as well as a couple of out-of-state schools.

The only medalist was freshman Tyler Sharp, who finished in seventh place with a record of 3-3 on the day. He drew a first-round bye and then lost to Kevin Keller of Lansing, 14-4, in the second round.

In consolation, Sharp pinned Mario Machado of Kansas City-Harmon. Then he pinned Devin Spurlock of Kansas City-Turner and Jacob York of Columbus. In the consolation quarterfinal, he was defeated by Kevin Perez of Class 6A Junction City, 8-6. In the seventh-place match, Sam Jameson of Glenwood (Iowa) won by a 4-2 decision.

Justin Sharp went 2-2 at 125. he pinned Paola's Taylor Harris in the first round and won a major decision over Logan Bjorgo of Blue Valley-Stilwell in the second round. In the third round, Levi Eck of Andale won a 10-0 major decision.

In consolation, Sharp was eliminated by a 6-2 decision in favor of Chapman's Morgan Shorter.

Victor Hughes was 0-2 at 130. He lost a first-round match to Trevor Bolerjack of Olathe South, 8-6. In consolation, he drew a bye before Dylan McKinney of Paola won the next match by a 6-4 decision.

Michael Durossette was 1-2 at 135. He drew a first-round bye, then was dropped into consolation with a technical fall posted by Topeka-Seaman's Cole Schreiner.

In consolation, Durossette pinned Nebyou Abrea of Olathe South, then lost to Austin Gibson of Atchison County, 17-8.

Blake Cowen went 2-2 at 152. He pinned Tyler Crowe of Eudora in the first round but lost a 12-9 decision to Chase Woofter of Shawnee Mission East in the second round.

Cowen took a 15-1 major decision over Ian McClellan of Tonganoxie in his first consolation match. Trip Miller of Olathe South won the next match, but the actual result wasn't listed on the bracket.

John Metcalf was 0-2 at 160. He lost an 8-5 decision to Jordan O'Neal of Chapman and a 6-0 decision to Blaine Hill of Shawnee Mission East.

Dane Cummings was 2-2 at 171. He pinned Glenwood's Drew Howell in the first round but was pinned by Tonganoxie's Jermaine Maus in the second. In consolation, Cummings took a 4-0 decision over Chase Frasier of Lawrence-Free State before losing by pinfall to Cory Andrews of Lansing.

Drew Bryant was 1-2 at 285. He drew a first-round bye but then was pinned by Ammon Austin of Lawrence-Free State. In consolation, he pinned Aaron Rafalko of Junction City before getting pinned by Tyler Smith of Olathe South.

The Tigers will host a Southeast Kansas League triangular tonight at 5:30 p.m. in the FSHS gymnasium. This event was originally scheduled to be in Parsons but was moved, giving the Tigers a Senior Night they weren't originally going to be able to have.

Coffeyville and Parsons will wrestle first followed by Coffeyville and Fort Scott, then Parsons and Fort Scott.
