Free throws the difference in 'Hound loss to Allen County

IOLA -- Fort Scott Community College's men shot over 60 percent from the field here Wed-nesday night but Allen County cap-itzlized on its free-throw opp-ortunities as the homestanding Red Devils took an 84-68 victory in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play.

The Greyhounds (0-3 East, 3-12 overall) made 28 of 46 field-goal attempts, including eight 3-pointers. But they were awarded only 9 free throws, making 4.

Allen County (2-1, 7-7) made 29 of 43 shots from the field for 67 percent, connected on 11 of 18 3-point shots and, most importantly, made 15 of 23 free throws.

Ramell Taylor led the Greyhounds with 17 points while Alex Barner, playing just his third game since coming over from the football team at semester and Jacon Gougler each added 16.

Keevis Tukes led Allen County with 20 points. Aaron Jackson followed with 16, Andra Bailey 14, Gavin Cole 12 and Chris Lee 11.

Fort Scott will play its first home game of the new calendar year Saturday against Independence. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. following the women's game, which begins at 2 p.m.
