Due to cold weather, the Arma Care Center representative did not come to take blood pressure readings. Pork Roast with potatoes and gravy, dressing, navy beans with corn bread, pickled beets, apricot-Jello, chocolate pie with topping and potato chips dyed in Christmas colors were on the menu.
Following the business meeting, the President, Lily Coonrod talked of the improvements made in the Cottage lately and invited folks to start attending monthly to enjoy this group who require no dues, just fellowship and very good food. We meet on the second Monday of each month, weather permitting in winter, dinner is served at noon. Readings were given by Mary Virginia, Patty, Mary Lee and Lilly. Bingo was played until each won a prize. Helen then received the Blackout prize. Once in a while, the president surprises us with something exceptional as in the month of November, she asked us to tell of a special Valentines Day, yes, in November! Then she gave each a large heart shaped box of Russell Stovers Chocolates that she and Jerry bought while on a vacation trip to Texas. Such nice surprises happen at Autumn Leaves Senior Citizen meetings.
In Kansas City when the Buffalo Bills won over the K.C. Chiefs on Sunday, Dec. 13, Delton Watt Jr and Joseph Meave enjoyed the football game in spite of the snow falling. They had been presented the tickets for the game on a previous Sunday by their minister and his congregation in the church where they attend in Fayette, Mo.
It was noted that last week an error that needs correcting was made about Pastor David Peterson in introducing "His Lady" from Ozark Christian College. She is Kara Stephan who on Christmas Sunday helped lead the singing of favorite Christmas carols during morning worship. As folks were leaving the Christian Church, Terry Bright gave each family a Pocket Planner for 2010. Walter Foulk brought Bedene Funeral Home Calenders.
All were invited to attend the Christmas Program presented in Open Door Mission at 6 p.m. that Sunday night. Co-Pastors Roy Widmar read the script as the children acted the parts of people who gathered around Jesus, played by Don Talent.
Cookies were served at closing of the play. A fine evening ended as all were leaving, The Bridgewaters gave book marks reading "Happy Birthday Jesus" and fruit treats with candy canes given each family by Open Door Mission.
Monday, Fannie Mae and Jude Christianson came from Independence, Mo., to Arcadia, her old home town. They took her Uncle Walter Foulk and a nephew Pete Twombly of Pittsburg out for a special Christmas dinner.
Jack and Mary Lee Payne with Helen Payne spent Thanksgiving in Bolivar, Mo., with David and Amy Carpenter and sons, Drew and Lane. Another day, Alta Carpenter, Jack and Mary Lee attended a basketball game in Bolivar where Drew was one of the players. The next night they attended the Christmas Program in Bolivar School where Amy Carpenter's Class did a fine job of performing.
