UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's boys opened Three Rivers League play with a 56-47 victory over St. Paul Tuesday night at the West Bourbon Elementary School gymnasium.

Defending girls' champion St. Paul saw two of its players score at least 20 points as the Indians went on to a 72-52 win over Uniontown.

These games were also the home openers for both teams. They host Pleasanton in a non-league doubleheader Friday night before going on their holiday break.

DuShawn Robinson led Uniontown's boys (1-0 TRL, 2-3 overall) with 19 points while Ben Dixon added 16 as the Eagles won their second consecutive game.

St. Paul (0-1, 2-2) led 33-31 after three periods. Uniontown outscored the Indians 25-14 in the fourth.

Morgan Westhoff led St. Paul's girls (1-0, 4-0) with 26 points as she made all 11 shots she took from the field. Teammate Jessica Tuck added 20 points for the Indians.

Jacy Ermel led the Eagles (0-1, 3-2) with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Abbie Smith scored 14 points, picked up 5 steals and dished 3 assists.

"I'm disappointed that we lost but not in how we played," Uniontown head coach Ken Holt said. "St. Paul is a really good team and they showed why. They shot 80 percent from the field in the first half.

"Hopefully, these (tough) games will make us better."

St. Paul finished 28 of 50 from the field, which is 56 percent, and 11 of 14 at the free-throw line. Uniontown shot 45 percent from the field on 21 of 47 and made 8 of 11 free throws.

St. Paul outrebounded Uniontown 23-18 and also committed only 15 turnovers to 20 for the Eagles.

The Indians led 19-12 after one period of play and held a 37-27 halftime advantage.
