Better evening for Senior Swingers Monday night dance at Buck Run

Wednesday, November 25, 2009
It was a much better evening for the dance at Buck Run Community Center. We have had some rainy evenings and sometimes the gym is so crowded that the parking lot is full before I arrive at 5 p.m. We always manage somehow though.

Joe Willis from Nevada was at the dance Monday night. He sings and plays a guitar. He is the leader of the band at the Nevada dance and likes to come and play with us. He comes with Marion Shrimplin, who also plays with the band at the Nevada dance. We all enjoy going there when we can.

Mary Sue was at Buck Run just as I drove in and she carried my amplifier in and took over the kitchen. She makes the coffee and gets things ready for the table.

John and Betty Gaddy from Pittsburg came soon after I did and Neva and Alva Hite from Deerfield came soon after that. The basketball boys were playing and we had to wait for a little while. They helped some before they all left. With everyone doing what they could, it didn't take long.

We had a "get well" card out for Shirley Van Winkle. She has been sick and down in her for three days. The doctor told her it was arthritis in her spine and gave her a shot and pills and she was up some Monday. We hope she recovers soon. She likes to go to the dances with the girls.

Josephine Brillhart was out Monday for breakfast at McDonalds but said she couldn't come to the dance that night. She has been on oxygen and it is taking her awhile to get going again. Her son from Wichita is coming to get her Tuesday for Thanksgiving. She said she didn't know when she would be back but she is unable to do much riding or going places so we hope she will make it OK.

Our crowd was a little better Monday night. They all like to do the line dance and do quite a bit when we have the chair dance.

There are some younger boys that like to learn to dance and come down and our gals are trying to teach them. They fit in the line dance and I can see they are learning it OK.

We have different ones saying they are going out to eat Thanksgiving so I don't know if we will have a card group Thursday or not. We usually have a couple tables full and play Back Up and have snacks at 7 p.m. That is what a phone is good for so we will see.

There weren't any birthdays or anniversaries this week and all seemed to go OK.

Lucille Sumaker plays her harmonica after we have our snack after we have our snack and it gets us all going again.

There will be a dance at Cadmus on Friday night.

Lonnie and Joan Engle were back to the dance Monday night. They have done well recuperating over the death of their son recently.
