Paul House, President and C.E.O of Harvest Ministries International, Inc. said the organization bought the buildings last December with the intention of opening a medical facility as well as a television production studio.
House said the plans for the six-story building include a full medical diagnostic center which will also offer treatments for some cancers, kidney dialysis, and other treatments which are currently unavailable in Bourbon County. House added the equipment in the facility will be state of the art.
"There is nobody in this area that has the equipment we will be having in there," House said.
In addition to the diagnostic center, there will also be a free medical clinic which will serve those who do not have insurance or cannot afford to pay for treatment at the hospital.
"We're not competing with the hospital," House said. "We'll be relieving some of that burden."
The medical center will also provide care for children with hearing and speech difficulties. This area will be funded by the Scottish Rite, House said.
The television production station will be housed in the smaller building and will be used to produce the organization's program Glory Road which House said is a gospel version of the Tonight Show. He said the studio will also be available for local churches and non-profit organizations to tape programs or promotions. In addition, they will also provide training to those who want to learn more about the media production industry.
House said the organization anticipated creating 75-100 jobs in the area, however applications will not be accepted until the spring.
Harvest Ministries International, Inc. is an organization which began in 1986 and now branches out to serve in many different aspects throughout the world. House said they chose Fort Scott as a headquarters location because of it's central location and because it was cheaper to buy the building than build their own.
"We're looking for Fort Scott to be a world headquarters for us and we're looking to be here from now on," House said.
House said he plans to have everything operational by June 2010 depending on the winter weather. He also said some areas may be set up in a temporary location before the facility opens.

this is such a wonderful thing for our community...I am so glad we will have a service such as this in our town..Thank you Harvest Ministries..!!
does anyone know if this facility will have Radiation Therapy?
I am so glad to see something so needed come into Fort Scott. It is a blessing and a miracle that all should be thankful for.
If this ministry actually comes to pass it will be of no thanks to the City of Fort Scott, BEDCO or Dale Bunn. They have set on their hands and done nothing to help these people. What I am still trying to figure out is why the City of Fort Scott is paying Dale Bunn an annual salary and paying BEDCO the same as an annual salary because neither one of them are getting anything done for this community but line their own pockets! Oops, did I say that out loud.... You bet I did....Someone needs to. You commishiners need to wake up and trim the fat that is not doing anything for this city. And while your trimming.... send Joe Turner packing and put the mayor to running this city. All he would have to do is oversee the supervisors that are already doing the job anyway...... Wake up people!
