Youth Activities Team Co-convener Clayton Tatro said everything about the event from security, parking, grounds, ticket sales, and vendors could not have gone better.
"Everything went as we hoped, as we planned," Tatro said. "A lot of work went into making it right ... we really felt like we were successful."
YAT originally set a goal of 7,000 tickets sold for the event and they were near that mark just days before the concert. The YAT does not yet have a final total number of tickets sold; the last known total was over 5,000. Tickets were also available at the gates before the concert, which may have helped the committee reach their goal. Regardless of whether the goal was met, the committee was pleased with the turnout, Tatro said.
"The turnout was exactly what we were hoping for," he said.
With the combination of thousands of individuals and alcohol, violent incidents were surprisingly avoided during the concert. The presence of alcohol was one of the concerns when the event was brought to the Bourbon County Fair Board in July 2008.
"When you get that many people together in a confined space, people are going to be people," Tatro said. "Overall the number and severity of the incidents were manageable."
The event has certainly created a sense of enthusiasm in the community, according to Tatro. He said the YAT has been very pleased with the community's response, involvement, support, and pride.
"(YAT) couldn't be more pleased," Tatro said. "(The concert) is all that anybody wants to talk about outside of Greyhound football."
The excitement and enthusiasm generated by the event is expected to help the progress of the Ellis Park Project, in which the YAT is attempting to raise money to build a $4 million park which consists of baseball diamonds, soccer fields, batting cages, miniature golf course, walking trail and other family oriented activities. The excitement is also expected to give the other Community Visioning Action Teams a boost.
"Once we come together as a community in the way we have ... that type of excitement and enthusiasm is contagious," Tatro said. "I don't think there is any question we will reap additional benefits throughout the community and throughout some of these other action teams."
Tatro said the YAT is planning on meeting later this week to get final numbers from the event.

Hopefully Next Year Find a place that isn't near a Nursing Home so you don't have to stop playing at 9 pm. Again another thing that ruins fun for The Younger Crowd..The Elderly and Older people win again. Other than that Great Concert.. Just a Shame it had to end at 9pm! LAME!
I DIDN'T GO TO THE CONCERT BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS VERY GOOD. HOWEVER, I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT BECAUSE THIS CONCERT IS AIMED AT PROVIDING A PLACE FOR FAMILY ACTIVITES, THE CONCERT GOER WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE NUMBER OF DRUNKS STUMBLING AROUND & RUNNING INTO CHILDREN & OTHER CONCERT GOERS WHO WERE THERE TO ENJOY THE MUSIC. WHY WAS BOOZE ALLOWED? THE MEET & GREET WAS AIMED PRIMARLY AT CHILDREN. THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE HAD TO KNOW THERE WOULD BE A LARGE NUMBER OF KIDS THERE SO WHY WASN'T ALCOHOL BANNED? JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE TO SHOW KIDS THAT TO HAVE FUN YOU HAVE TO DRINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing should be taken away from the fact that this concert was a great opportunity for Fort Scott to host and indeed was a great performance. The bottom line is that this was intended to raise money and with that in mind they chose to sell alcohol. I am not a drinker at all but comes down to the parents to make a decision is this something I want my children to be a part of or not. Every concert I have ever been to has offered alcohol and if they hadn't I don't think it would have had the success it did. I appreciate all those who took part in putting this together for Fort Scott. My wife and I sat in the crowd and didn't have any problems whatsoever, not to say there weren't drunks acting stupid but it was self seating all it takes is for you to get up and move your chair to another location. Once again great concert and thanks to all involved.
Without the sale of Alcohol I'd bet they wouldn't have had one third of the ticket sales.
I agree that without the sale of alcohol the sales would have been way down. Anyway, great job to the YAT team.... Fort Scott is SO proud of you. The music was wonderful!!
3dn74,
Ever been to the royals or chiefs games? men, women, children, infants, ministers, priests, I've seen'em all at these events and who complains about beer(that's the alcohol you are referring to) at these events?
I bet even YOU have been to a Royals game.
I have to say that this was one of the best events I have ever been to in Fort Scott! I had a blast at the concert and everyone who was with me did too! Thank you so much to all who spent time to put this on! And thank you so much Jason Aldean! I was in need of a good time and you definitly succeeded in that part!
Bottom line, this was a phenomenal event for Fort Scott and Bourbon County. I had my doubts that it would be as successful as it was - and I was blown away. Great job YAT!
My daughter and grand daughter were as close to Jason on Saturday night as Taylor Swift, Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn and George Strait were last night. How cool! Both still have a grin on their face. Way to go YAT and the LaRoche family. Awesome effort by all.
I cannot believe that after all of the hard work and time that the Laroche family and YAT members put into this, someone is still complaining. Get over yourself.
We brought our blind daughter down to the show, and thanks to the Y.A.T. members for getting Angel a special meet and greet with Adam and Jason, the Y.A.T. team went above and beyond to make this a special day for her.Now as far as the drinking goes we did not have any problems with anyone.Having a blind child around that many people and not have one problem is fantastic.Angel sang and clapped through out the whole show.It was an amazing event like this to happen is a small town, and it was a very enjoyable night out and we would love to do it any time.By the way we do not drink any alcohol and the only problem was there was no bottled water for sale anywhere at the concert it was all gone, thankfully the Y.A.T. members let us bring one bottle in for our daughter. We felt like it was a real family event and after seeing young and old having a great time in the same place made it even better.THANKS TO ALL THE Y.A.T. MEMBERS JOB WELL DONE !
