Charity raffle allows students chance to ride in a fire truck

Thursday, November 5, 2009
Local students can win a chance to ride to school in a fire truck while helping needy families.

The Scott Township Fire Department is hosting a raffle to raise money to adopt families this holiday season. The winner of the raffle will be able to have their children ride to school in a fire truck. There will also be a grand prize in which a child will be able to ride in a fire truck during the Christmas Parade on Dec. 1.

All schools in Fort Scott will have a winner with the exception of the preschools. The grand prize is available to anyone in Bourbon county.

Representatives in STFD will be selling the tickets outside local grocery stores. They will be at Gene's Heartland Foods on Saturday, Wood's Supermarket on Nov. 14, and Walmart Supercenter on Nov. 21. The representatives will be at the locations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tickets will be $2 each or three tickets for $5. The drawing will take place before Thanksgiving and the winners will be notified by the STFD.

STFD adopted 18 families last year with money raised through various fundraisers.
