The project, which will include a two-inch milling of the asphalt on Wall Street from Scott Avenue to Steen Street and subsequent overlay of fresh asphalt, was originally scheduled to begin at the beginning of July but was delayed because of funding issues and weather delays.
The city received approval in late July regarding the loan from the state which is being used to pay the city's share of the milling and overlaying of Wall Street, according to Fort Scott City Manager Joe Turner. The city requested the loan and had difficulty getting a response from the state.
Turner said the project was then delayed further because of repairs being made to a storm sewer on the south side of Wall Street between Margrave and Barbee streets. Though the project was planned to be done before the resurfacing, Turner said weather significantly slowed the project's completion.
Earlier this month, Turner said the project was rescheduled to begin Oct. 19 before being delayed yet again, this time because Heckert Construction Company, Inc., of Pittsburg, was delayed at a previous project.
With the work finally in progress, Turner said the project should be completed in about 30 days, depending on the weather.
