The Tigers finished the regular slate at 11-5 and are virtually certain to host a playoff game for the first time ever. The opponent will be determined at a seeding meeting that will take place at Fort Scott High School Saturday morning. Whoever the Tigers play could have to play a "entry game" on Monday since there will be 10 teams in the tournament.
"This is about where I thought we should finish," Fort Scott head coach David Gray said. "We've become a defensive team this year. That's nine shutouts now and that's pretty amazing."
The Tigers have won six straight games, four of them by shutout. Fort Scott has outscored its opponents 26-1 during that stretch -- 17-0 in the last four games.
"It all starts with (defender) Chris Herman," Gray said. "Our back line has been tough and keeping us in the game.
"Griffin Hulbert controls the middle of the field. And if they get past him, they have to deal with Chris and, of course (goalkeeper) Brett (Allen). Our outside guys to a good job of funneling it in to them."
Chris McAllister scored the Tigers' first goal literally seconds before halftime as his brother, Max, passed the ball between two defenders. The McAllisters teamed up to make it 2-0 as Max found Chris again in the 71st minute. Max McAllister scored unassisted in the 78th minute and Aaron Cowlishaw scored on a penalty kick just moments before the final whistle.
