Harold George Stevens, 86, formerly of Fort Scott, died Sunday morning Oct. 18, 2009 at the Garden Terrace Nursing Home in Overland Park, Kan.
He was born March 21, 1923 in Rapid City, South Dakota the son of Jesse Lloyd and Mary Etta (Zenor) Stevens.
He married Dorothy Mae Ann Kirkpatrick Sept. 14, 1946 in Klamath Falls, Ore. She preceded him in death Sept. 18, 2005.
Harold served in the US Navy Seabees from 1943 until 1946.
He owned Mid America Welding Supplies and retired from there in 1978, and then owned Stevens Golf Carts and Equipment until his retirement in 2005.
He was active in Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, and VFW. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Fort Scott Country Club, and he was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his two daughters; Randy Reed of Shawnee, Kan., and Robin Cope of New York City, New York, four grandchildren, two sisters; Opal Wagner of Broomfield, Colorado, and Grace Corbin of Klamath Falls, Ore., and a brother; Kenneth Stevens of Bethel Island, Calif.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, he was also preceded in death by a son; Roger Stevens, a sister; June Olsen, and two brothers; Larry Stevens and Clement Stevens.
William James Schafer will officiate funeral services 1:30 p.m. Friday Oct. 23, 2009 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, with a visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. prior to services.
Burial will follow at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Detail.
