Rachel Claire Leek, age 20, of Lawrence, died Oct. 16 in Topeka as a result of a hit-and-run accident.
She was born May 30, 1989 in Olathe, the daughter of James and Sandra Leek.
She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 2007, and went on to attend both Johnson County Community College and the University of Kansas. She was currently employed with Wheatfield's Bakery in Lawrence.
She is survived by her parents, James and Sandra Leek, five brothers; Ernest, Andrew, Thomas, Alex and Patrick, and five sisters; Esther Leek-Veitch, Anne Leek, Mary Leek-Stolz, Jane Leek and Angela Leek, aunts and uncle Carol and John Krieger, and Susan Sulkey, and one nephew, Clovis James Leek --Veitch.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Hollis and Ernestine Leek, of Fort Scott, and Joe and Josephine Sulkey, of St. Louis, Mo.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W 143rd, Olathe with visitation following until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 22, also at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. The family suggests memorials to the Catholic Charities Food Pantry , 333 E Poplar Street, Olathe, 66061.
Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetary in Fort Scott with a graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 22.
